Cooking 2.3

Hey guys! It is safe to say I am  improving on my cooking skills and each week I am learning something new. For the third week of genius hour, I decided to make both chicken and beef tacos (I am more of a chicken person if you didn't already notice). These were so quick and simple, I actually enjoyed the process. As most of you know, the first basic step is to cook and prepare the meat. My mom usually adds seasoning to the hamburger meat, so I followed that method. As the meat was browning, I sliced and prepared the toppings- tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese. I believe my tacos were just as tasty as my mom's, so it is safe to say this week was a success.      Next week I am hoping to find a college-student  friendly recipe that is easy to make in the dorm room environment. My overall goal for genius hour is to find those quick, freshman safe dinner and lunch recipes. I'm hoping I will find more meals that appeals to my picky taste and future bu...

Welcome back! This week I challenged myself to step out if my comfort zone and prepare a meal for my family. This required a little more time and effort then the sandwich I made last week. Cooking a meal for others will help me next year when my college roommates need a quick bite after class.       This week I made homemade chicken fiesta. This is my mom’s personal recipe and one of my favorite meal when it's chilly outside. We typically have this dish on football Sunday's with the fam. If you never had or heard of this delicious meal, it is practically just a chicken stew. Eww stew... I know that sounds gross, but coming from one of the most pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, it's actually quite tasty. This dish contains shredded chicken with seasoning/spices, tortilla chips, and cheese.      Making dinner for my family was a bit of a  struggle and required more of my time then expected. Preparing the chicken to pu...

Hi guys! I'm so happy if you are  reading this, because I actually made myself a meal that was edible!  Drum roll please... I made a grilled cheese sandwich served with homemade chex mix. I know you're thinking a grilled cheese is the most easy and simple meal. However, in my opinion, this is a big accomplishment for me. If you read my cooking 2.0 blog, you would know I don't make my own meals.     Making a grilled cheese sandwich was a good first step for me. This week I  didn't face any struggles and challenges, so it gave me confidence in my cooking abilities! One time my mom made me this same sandwich and she forgot to take the clear wrapping off of the cheese. So technically, I'm already better than her.       My plan for this genius hour is to start small and grow each week. I'm well aware that I might make some gross dishes here and there, but it will be  important to not compare my success to other people's c...

Cooking 2.0

Welcome to my very first blog! This go around of genius hour I will be teaching myself how to cook. I think this will be beneficial, because next fall I will be attending college away from home. This means I will have to prepare my own meals and snacks. Cooking from home will also be a healthier source and I will save money, which means new clothes!     I plan to learn how to make a new dish each week.  Obviously it won't be a five course meal, but I'm hoping to learn how to cook more foods, so no more microwavable mac & cheese! I am also hoping my mom, Linda hunny, will help me once in a while prepare and cook these dishes. I won't have her there to help in college, so now is my chance to gather all the information and tips. A struggle that might occur is Linda hunny hates to cook and bake, so getting her time and effort might be a challenge. Also, I plan on finding easy, college students meals online. This will give me recipes with cheaper i...
